How To Treat Body Acne

For most of us, when we hear the word acne, we think of facial acne. However many men suffer from body acne. Acne can break out, not only on the face but also on the neck, shoulders, upper arms and back. In many ways, body acne can be harder to treat because it is easily irritated and made worse by the texture the of the clothing that rubs against it.

The same factors that bring on facial acne also bring on body acne. An overproduction of oils in the skin blocks pores, causing bacteria to grow below the surface. Like facial acne, body acne can progress to very serious levels where nodules and cysts appear on skin, with the potential to leave permanent scars or blemishes. Rigorous treatment is needed to prevent body acne from progressing to a serious level as it is a very uncomfortable condition to live with.

Under no circumstances should body acne pimples be scrubbed in an attempt to clean the area. It is not hygiene or cleanliness that causes the problem of acne. Instead it is caused by androgen hormones that stimulate too much oil to be produced in the sebaceous glands. Any area with acne should be cleaned very gently and then treated with whatever course of treatment that has been recommended by your doctor or dermatologist.

Breaking popping, scrubbing or breaking the covering of acne spots is one of the worst things that can be done. If you have been advised to use a topical cream, apply it gently to your back area and then be careful to wear only clothing that has a smooth texture. If you use a back pack or anything else that will create friction against the skin on your back, consider using a temporary alternative like a bag that you carry in your hand until everything has cleared up. Anything that rubs or irritates an area infected with acne usually will cause more spots to break out and will also lengthen the amount of time that it takes for the area to heal and clear up.

Acne is a condition that you have to be very persistent in treating, and with which you will also need to be very patient. It often takes more than one attempt to get rid of acne. There is no single treatment that works for all people so you may have to try a few treatments before finding the one that works for you. Furthermore, even when a treatment is working, your skin may look worse for a while before it looks better. This means that you will need to continue your daily treatments even when the treatment appears not to be working to find out whether after four or six weeks you begin to see results.
